Town bring an end to their season in StaffordshireGraham Alexander wants his side to show their ability for one final time this season when they travel to Port Vale on Sunday afternoon.
The game at Vale Park brings an end to a successful first campaign in England’s third tier for Alexander’s men, and a win in Staffordshire would guarantee them a top half finish.
Town were beaten at home to Colchester United in the final six minutes last weekend, as goals from Gavin Massey and Chris Porter earned the U’s an invaluable three points.
Ahead of the game against Vale, the boss said: “The season could have gone on a little longer for us, but whether it should have is another question.
“We still want to take the positives out of it, and finish on a high like we’ve said over the past two or three weeks.
“It’s important that we do that, or at least try to do that. In general terms I think the season has been a good one for us.
“There’s always that question mark at the back of the head of it we could have done a little bit better, and I think the answer to that is probably always yes.
“It’s about finding those improvements over the summer, and taking them into a season that will be as equally as tough next time out.
“To justify the course of the past nine months, a top 10 finish would prove that we have been a very good team this season.
“It’s important we go into the last game with something riding on it, and we’re taking it as serious as any of the others.
“We do go to places and look at how we can win the game, and always want three points wherever we go.
“Sunday will be no different. Port Vale will be a competitive team as they always are.
“I just want the lads to go out and show for one last time this season that they’re a really good team, who can get good results.”
