Late goals from Proctor and Pond earned Town a point

Graham Alexander hailed his Fleetwood Town players’ determination after they came from two goals down to pick up a dramatic late point against Bradford City.

Jon Stead and Christopher Routis had opened the scoring either side of half time, but Jamie Proctor and Nathan Pond replied for the Cod Army.

And things could have been even better for Town when David Ball went close with a glancing header in the final seconds.

Alexander said: “We just needed that glimmer of hope and it was a good time to score a goal. It makes the opponent nervous and then we’re on the front foot.

“It was a fantastic ball in by Tyler and a great header by Proc. We just didn’t want to run out of time to get that equaliser.

“It was some great determination by a couple of players to keep the attack alive. It has bobbled about on that pitch and it’s dropped to Pondy and he’s cracked it in.

“You could see what it meant to the players and the supporters at the end.”

“The result was a testament to the lads, their fitness, their commitment and their motivation. I thought they were superb.

“We were unlucky to be 2-0 down and I think we deserved to get a point with the overall play. We knew the threats Bradford pose, and we knew how we had to compete against it.”

He added: “We’re really pleased for the players. It was a disappointment on Tuesday night against Coventry  but we’ve just shown that we have got a lot of spirit within that group.

“It feels like a win in a way but it’s only a point, but a good point to take into next week’s game.

“We have faced all sorts of challenges and tests against varying opponents. This is a tough place to come without a shadow of a doubt. You’ve seen the opponents they have beaten in the cup here.

“To be 2-0 down and come back like that was superb and I was pleased with the players.”
