Manager delighted Jimmy Ryan has joined Fleetwood Town

Graham Alexander told the Club website that Jimmy Ryan fits the bill in terms of the type of player Fleetwood Town are looking to attract.

The highly rated midfielder joined the Cod Army on Wednesday afternoon following a two year spell at League One counterparts Chesterfield.

Ryan, who has previously plied his trade with Accrington Stanley, has made over 300 league appearances despite only being 26 years of age.

Delighted with the news, Alexander said: “Jimmy is a very good player first and foremost. We know of his qualities having played against us for Chesterfield.

“We have played quite a few games against Chesterfield and he has always been a difficult player to come up against.

“We are delighted to bring him to Fleetwood Town. We have spoken about the profile of player we want at the Club and he certainly fits into that category.

“He will help our younger players with his experience even though he is only 26. He has played a lot of games and I think he will fit into the squad perfectly. He will be a quality player for us.

“Jimmy has a bit of everything. We spoke last week about what he can bring to the team and what we could help him to improve on.

“He does everything that a midfielder is supposed to. He can pass a ball, he is composed, he can put his foot in and he has a lot of experience for a 26-year-old.

“For the position we will be playing him in, he needs to have a bit of everything and he certainly has that. We spoke to Jimmy about him having the potential to play at a higher level.

“We want to get the best out of him so he can either do that with us or later in his career. We have taken him around the new training ground and he was really impressed.

“It was important that we showed him that we still have the ambition to keep the Club moving forward. Jimmy is an ambitious lad himself and he is a great signing.”
