Maynard visited Highbury and Poolfoot Farm this afternoonPaul Maynard, the local MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys, visited Highbury and the Club’s new training ground at Poolfoot Farm this afternoon.
Maynard spoke with Chief Executive Steve Curwood about the Club’s plans at Poolfoot Farm and was given a tour of the impressive complex.
In addition, he visited BES Utilities at Highbury, and was warmly welcomed by members of the company’s staff.
He said: “I think when you see the reality of what’s occurring here the scale of it is really impressive. The difference it can make to the local community is really impressive as well.
“What Fleetwood Town are doing here is absolutely visionary but I do recognise some local residents to have concerns.
“I’m pleased to here the club are going to work on improving communication and explaining what is going on here at Poolfoot Farm.”
Maynard admitted that he never envisaged Fleetwood Town’s rise when he became an MP for the local area some five years ago.
“When I took over the only club that I thought mattered was Blackpool F.C but that now is not the case, the Cod Army has risen.
“My first public event as MP was going down to Wembley for the Play-Off final when Blackpool were promoted to the Premier League.
“My diary now is all focused around the Blackpool - Fleetwood derby! It’s remarkable what can happen in five years and I’m really proud of what Fleetwood Town have achieved.”
Curwood said: “It was great to allow Paul the time to see what a fantastic facility we’ve created, as I think Paul wasn’t fully aware of the good work that was going on in the community.
“We’ve got a number of projects going on down here amongst other things, so it was great that Paul could understand what this facility will become.”
