Striker started 4-3 win at Bury on Tuesday

Turn the clock back a month ago, not many Fleetwood Town fans would have expected David Ball to be starting a league match for the Cod Army in 2015/16.

Well funnier things have happened, and sure enough, the popular striker was named in the Fleetwood Town starting line-up for the dramatic 4-3 win over Bury on Tuesday night.

The 25-year-old re-joined Graham Alexander’s men the week leading up to the new season and impressed at Gigg Lane as he reignited his partnership with fellow frontman Jamie Proctor.

The competition upfront is rife with Ball, Proctor, Declan McManus, Jamille Matt and Vamara Sanogo all currently challenging for a place in the starting eleven, a fact that Ball believes is healthy for the Cod Army.

“I was delighted to come back into the side on Tuesday night and I felt good. It was great to get 85 minutes under my belt and pick up all three points.”

“I have a good partnership with Proc (Jamie Proctor) and I think we showed that at times last season.

“Declan McManus and Jamille Matt have also played well. We have five strikers involved in the first team at the moment and we can all play together.

“There is a good mix and a lot of competition which puts us all on our toes. It is good for the team.”

Ball re-joined the Club on a two year contract earlier this summer despite having a number of options to go elsewhere and play his football.

However, the former Manchester City man admitted his heart was always set on a return to the Club where he has made over 100 appearances and tasted promotion success.

“I love playing for this Club and that is one of the key reasons why I returned out of the options I had. I chose to come back here and be a part of what is happening at Fleetwood Town.

“I love it here and the fans have always been great with me.

“On Tuesday night we put up a great fight to come from behind twice. We played quick football and we played Bury off the park at times.

“If we go with the same mind set this weekend against Colchester I am sure we can come away with the right result.”
