Development squad continued recent fine form

The attacking intent of Town’s development squad impressed manager Barry Nicholson as they hit five past AFC Blackpool on Tuesday evening.

The Cod Army dominated proceedings for large parts, and were a threat every time they went forward against their Fylde Coast neighbours.

An own goal by a home defender put Nicholson’s side ahead before Ash Hunter doubled the advantage before the break.

Eddie Dsane netted after the interval, while Kurt Willoughby pulled a goal back for his side with a rifled finish midway through the half.

Gary Lavery added a fourth soon after Willoughby’s strike, and Nick Haughton completed the rout late on.

After the game, Nicholson said: “There were a lot of positives to take from tonight’s game and I was pretty pleased with a lot of the performances.

“We scored another five goals but the only disappointment for me was conceding the goal in the second half.

“We looked pretty solid at the back throughout but just lost that challenge in the box and it’s fallen to their striker who finished it well.

“We were really good going forward and that was the most pleasing aspect of the evening for me.

“We’re a year and a bit into this job, and the group of lads have worked extremely hard for me and this was the case again.

“We work hard on getting the boys into dangerous areas, especially the strikers as want them to score goals for us.

“When the ball goes wide we look to try and get the strikers into those positions and the oppositie wingers in at the back post.

“We were a threat all night and probably could have scored a few more. I’m really happy.”
