Young Cod Army have been in fine form as of late

Despite falling to defeat away at Oldham Athletic this afternoon, youth team coach Mark Bowley has been impressed with the way his side have performed in recent weeks.

Town had picked up three wins on the bounce prior to today’s disappointment against the Latics, but Bowley was full of praise for the players after a good performance.

Last Saturday’s 1-0 win at home to Walsall was the first time the youngsters had played on Fuse Football, and Bowley admitted that the lads loved playing on the new surface.

He said: “It was a great victory for the boys against Walsall last Saturday and was our third on the trot. It was well deserved too as the lads battled hard.

“Walsall are a good side who play very good football, but the lads stuck in there and won the game thanks to a superb goal from Mamadou Djabi.

“With all the changes we’ve had to make recently with bringing a lot of schoolboys in means it’s taken a little bit of time for them to all settle in.

“We’re hopefully seeing the rewards somewhat now and things are looking bright for us now next season.

“Some of the lads who have come in have been very good for us. It’s difficult to release lads who you’ve been working with for two years as you do become attached to them.

“We hope with our exit strategy that they can find other clubs to go and play for.

“The lads loved Fuse Football. You could see it on their faces when we pulled up, and it was the same with the Walsall players.

“You can’t help to enjoy the fabulous facilities that we have, and the future looks so bright for Fleetwood Town.

“We were beaten 2-0 today by Oldham which was disappointing. The performance once again was top draw and we played really well.

“We hit the crossbar twice and Oldham’s keeper pulled off two very good saves to deny us on a couple of occasions.

“There was a little lack of concentration in the final 10 minutes which has cost us dearly, but we have to be pleased with the performance.

“We’ve got one game left against Burnley now, so hopefully we can finish the season off on a high this weekend.”
