Manager gives an update on his squad

Graham Alexander spoke to the Club's media at his press conference this afternoon ahead of this weekend's visit to Colchester United.

The Cod Army travel to the Weston Homes Community Stadium for the first time in their history looking to make it two wins out of two after last weekend's win over Port Vale.

And Alexander gave Town's supporters an update on how his squad is shaping up.

He said: "Conor’s obviously missing for this game so we have to look and replace him. Liam Hogan has played there before, so too Matty Blair and we had a look at Stewart Murdoch the other day.

"It gives us food for thought because it’s an important game, and we don’t want to lose any of our defensive qualities.

"I thought Danny Andrew did ever so well last and he’s given me a nice headache now. We know Stephen Crainey’s qualities and he’s built up a lot of credit for his performances already, so there’s a decision to make.

"We feel we have two good left backs who play the way we want them to play, and it’s important that they contribute the way we feel a full back should.

"I think Keith Southern’s a little bit short of fitness at the moment but it’s not through him lacking off or not training properly, it’s just a matter of time.

"As soon as he’s available to compete then he comes into our minds for selection.

"Jeff Hughes’ probably a little further ahead than Keith. We’ve seen a big improvement in his fitness levels and the way he’s actually moving because when he came back there was a slight occurrence in his running.

"He’s played a lot of games now and trained for a while so he’s just chomping at the bit to get back in now. As soon as he’s back to 100% fitness we know we’ve got a great player on our hands.

"It’s good for us because we know we’ve got two very good high quality players to come back into the squad very soon."
