Young Cod Army take on Sheffield United

Tuesday night sees the Cod Army’s youth side take on Sheffield United in the second round of the FA Youth Cup at Highbury.

In the first round, Town overcame Accrington Stanley thanks to a goal from Liam Wood which secured their passage to the second round for the first time in their history.

Town’s supporters have been urged to head on down to Highbury to support the youngsters, with a trip to Premier League side Sunderland the prize for the victors.

The Club’s Chief Executive, Steve Curwood, said of the game: “It’s great that they’ve made the second round for the first time in the Club’s history after being in the first round on a number of occasions.”

“It’s brilliant to see them now progress to the second round. It’s a tough tie on paper but nevertheless at home and a great opportunity to progress to the third round and face Sunderland.”

“As with all games at Highbury, the tie will be treated with the same level of detail as for a first team game, so I’d just like to urge as many of our supporters to come along and watch the young lads.”

“One of the most enjoyable parts of football is seeing young lads, some of whom are local, performing for the Club, and hopefully with a chance then of progressing to the first team.”

Entry for the tie will be £3 for adults, and £1 for concessions, with doors opening at 6pm. Drinks and snacks will be available to purchase.
