Civic reception celebrates Fleetwood Town promotion success

Fleetwood Town Football Club's fantastic promotion success will be celebrated on Saturday 31 May with a community fun day taking the place of a traditional victory parade.

There will also be a civic reception in Highbury's Parkside Suite from 1.30pm, when the Mayor of Wyre Councillor Ron Shewan and Wyre Council Leader Councillor Peter Gibson will be among the first to congratulate players and club officials.

Councillor Gibson said: "Congratulations on a fantastic achievement. It was a wonderful day and what a result for the supporters. Promotion will bring a massive boost for both residents and businesses as the bigger clubs like Preston, Sheffield United and Coventry will bring more people to the town on a regular basis. Well done to everyone involved."

The football club has decided against an open top parade as fans would already be in the ground. The event was originally dubbed as Party on the Pitch but is now ‘Promotion Party on the Pitch’ after Fleetwood’s historic 1-0 Wembley win in Monday’s Skybet League 2 Play Off final saw them win promotion to League One. It’s the club’s sixth promotion in 10 years!

Chairman Andy Pilley is keen to offer fans the chance to enjoy a fantastic family day out free of charge to join in the celebrations with the squad. The event will be hosted by Radio Wave 96.5fm and will feature a number of local bands from 1pm through until 10pm.

He said: “Our tremendous promotion success at Wembley Stadium should be celebrated and we will do that this Saturday at our family event. The Fleetwood Town supporters were magnificent at Wembley and Saturday will be a good opportunity to share our success with those who could not make the trip on Monday."

The fun starts at 10am when Fleetwood Town Juniors host a football tournament.

Local bands taking to the main stage include Belvadere, The Jeps, The People, Lune Deep, Touch the Pearl and Jekyl.

Jim's Sports Bar will be open along with kiosks serving hot food and alcoholic drinks.

Tickets are now available to everyone from the club ticket office.
