Manager looks ahead to second long trip of the week
Manager Graham Alexander wants to see Fleetwood Town back among the goals at Torquay United on Saturday.
The Cod Army take on the Gulls at Plainmoor this weekend looking build on two consecutive clean sheets against AFC Wimbledon and Newport County.
“We’re happy that we’ve looked solid and not given much away, but we need to find our scoring touch because that’s what you have to do to win games,” said Alexander.
“You have to score goals and that’s what we’re trying to focus on, without losing the defensive strength we’ve shown.
“Every game is an opportunity to score goals - we’ve scored against opposition from the league above.
“Nobody is going to give us anything, though – we have to earn it. If it takes one goal to win the game, then we’ll take it.”
Antoni Sarcevic came close to giving the Cod Army the lead in the first half at Rodney Parade on Tuesday night although he struck wide from Jamille Matt’s ball across.
“I think Sarcevic, without scoring in the last few games, has shown a great willingness to play for the team,” he said.
“He’s shown a lot of maturity over the last three or four games and you can see the burning desire that he wants the team to win more than him playing well.
“He’s such a good finisher, and he’ll be there on Saturday looking to get into the same areas and create the same opportunities for himself because he’s not a lad who hides.
“He’s a very good player and he’ll find his scoring touch soon.”
Wide-man Junior Brown has also gone on loan to League One side Tranmere Rovers this week, and Alexander believes more game time is just what the 24-year-old needs.
“Junior needs to go out and play games, that’s how we saw it,” said Alexander.
Midfielder Sarcevic is priced at 8/1 to score the opening goal on Saturday afternoon. To view a full list of odds pleaseclick here
