Manager: We know what we have to do

Graham Alexander looks ahead to tonight's JPT showdown

Manager Graham Alexander feels his team do not have to go chasing the game tonight as they bid to overturn a two goal deficit in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Northern Area Final.

The Cod Army were at the wrong end of a 3-1 score line following the first leg at Highbury earlier this month, but the boss believes his team have the credentials to turn the tie around and reach Wembley, with Peterborough United awaiting tonight’s winners.

“Chesterfield are the favourites tonight because they have a two goal advantage and they are half way to the final.

“We have to go to their ground and give it our best shot to get back into the tie. We are confident we can do that and we know what we have to do.

“We don’t have to go chasing the game, we don’t even need to score in the first half. The important thing tonight is that we don’t concede.

“We have more than enough goal threats in the team but we have to make sure we don’t commit to many bodies forward and prevent conceding cheap goals.

“We have a game plan and we know we have to be at our very best against a very good side.

“We know we can win games away from home against teams at the top end of our division. That is what we have to do tonight and I believe our players do rise to the occasion.

“Our supporters are not going to the game with a defeatist attitude. They are expecting to see their team compete and hopefully get to Wembley.

“We have to match their attitude and we know we have to win the game by the necessary margin to progress because nothing else will do. We know the fans will get right behind the team like they always do. “
