Skipper forecasts plenty of hard work ahead
Town goalkeeper Scott Davies expects a rigorous pre-season but insists the hard work will pay off at the end of another year in League Two.
The treble award-winning Player of the Year for 2012-13, who married in Spain last weekend, re-joins his Cod Army team mates a week on Friday, was hoping to find more time to relax in June.
But with the club setting their sights even higher next season, the captain admits it is down to the players be fully-fit for the next campaign.
The 26-year-old said “It’s that time of year where you like to relax but there’s no relaxing for me this year.
“It’s a big season for Fleetwood Town Football Club because of the ambition and where we want to go and where the chairman wants us to go.
“We as players have got to be able to live up to those expectations. The only way to do that is to come back at the end of June and be flying and get ourselves as fit as possible.
“Hopefully our ability will take care of everything (during next season) and we can be as successful as the chairman, manager and supporters want us to be.”
Davies will be working closely with new goalkeeping coach David Lucas, who arrived at Fleetwood back in December, and hopes to pull through the tiring work during the summer.
“I’m dreading it (the running),” he admitted.
“But you need to do it as it’s all about conditioning the body to last for 50 games or so and thankfully for the last two years I’ve managed to get through those games. It’s all down to the work you do in pre-season. The three keepers will stick together through the hard work,” added Davies included loan returnee Chris Maxwell.
Maxwell clocked-up two Wembley appearances during his loan period at Wrexham last season. The north Wales outfit lifted silverware in the FA Trophy but missed out on play-off promotion to Newport.
