Fleetwood Town defender Alan Goodall was extremely pleased his current form helped justify the club offering him a new one-year deal.

Town manager Graham Alexander also gave praise to left-sided defender. A thrilled Goodall, 32, stated “I’m absolutely delighted. To be new offered a contact at this stage of the season allows me to go into the summer with an easier mind about supporting my family. But first we must finish the rest of the season and those three important games.” Despite being offered a new contract, the defender remains fully focused on the current campaign which could still see Town clinch an outside play-off spot. “Starting this Saturday and gaining another three points is all that is on my mind at the moment. We’re not out of the chasing pack yet and until the points tally says otherwise then we will be pushing for every result and every point that remains available.” Alan Goodall joined the Cod Army in 2011 from Stockport County. He was in a reflective mood and also commented on his surprising predatorily instinct in front of goal having racked up a few goals in the current campaign. “I’ve had two good seasons at Fleetwood and I want to play more and push on more. I’ve enjoyed a few goals this season and that’s a part of the game I like. But my overall job is keeping goals out at our end and keeping clean sheets.” The defender has enjoyed one promotion with Town and has an eye on further success. “I’ve spoke to the gaffer and I want success alongside my teammates. I have Conference champions on my CV with Fleetwood and I now want League 2 champions as well. To approach the last years of my career with all that on my CV is great.” The Town boss paid tributes to Goodall’s contribution around the club. He said “Goodie has been fantastic for me and the team. He’s a great a great lad off the pitch and trains hard every single day. He’s a supportive teammate and a hardworking professional who does the right things at the right time.” Graham Alexander acknowledged that Goodall is a versatile asset within his squad having played in different positions this season whilst scoring some goals, simultaneously. “I know what he is like in training Monday to Friday and I know I’m going to see that same work come Saturday. No matter if he is played left-back or centre-half he gives everything and has weighed in with some important goals as well.” Goodall’s footballing attributes has seen him be rewarded with a new contract but Alexander highlighted his experience and consistency has benefited the manager. “It’s great to have someone like Alan on board. You know what he is going to deliver. That’s massively important as a manager because you know you have players on your team who you can rely on. “He will put in a 7/10 in 9 weeks out of 10 and that is where you build your consistency in results and performances. Goodie has been a big part of that for the team. Another year also helps him pass on his experience to the younger lads. He’s an all-round, great professional.”
