Date of birth
German midfielder Markus Schwabl joined the Cod Army in January 2017 from 3. Bundesliga side VfR Aalen.
Schwabl started his career in the youth setup at FC Holzkirchen before making the move SpVgg Unterhaching in 2001. The midfielder graduated from their youth side in 2009 and played in the reserve side for a year, before moving into the main side in 2011. He made 91 appearances for the side, and scored two goals in that time.
This was enough to earn him a move to 1860 Munich in the summer of 2013. The 26-year-old struggled to gain appearances in Munich so he travelled back to Unterhaching in 2014.
The five-foot-eleven utility player enjoyed a successful 2014/15 season, earning 28 appearances for Unterhaching, and after this success, he moved to VfR Aalen in the summer of 2015. He quickly made himself an integral part of the Aalen side and made 39 appearances in his opening season at the club.
Before heading to England to join Fleetwood Town in January 2017, he captained Aalen for 18 games and impressed Head Coach Peter Vollmann. In his first season at Town, he took part in 17 games but is yet to score his first goal.
