Michael Duckworth joined the Cod Army from Hartlepool United ahead of the 2016/17 season.

Duckworth started playing for his local team from the age of five and was drafted into the York City youth academy five years later.

Duckworth earned a two-year deal with the club in May 2008 but was released as he was unable to earn a professional contract in May 2010. His next move was North Premier League Division One side Harrogate Railway Athletic in October 2010 but moved on just ten months later to Bradford Park Avenue.

Whilst being converted from a forward to a right-back, he played 34 games in the 2011/12 season as they won promotion to the Conference North. He made 41 appearances the season after and won the club’s Supporters’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.

Duckworth then moved to Hartlepool United on 22 August 2013, after a successful trial, and was on a month-by-month contract. He made his professional debut two days after signing in a 1-0 loss to Fleetwood Town, and stayed there until a move to Town opened in June 2016.

In the 2016/17 season, he played four times before being loaned out to Morecambe.
