Virtue: It was a no-brainer to come to Fleetwood

Fleetwood Town's latest signing Matty Virtue spoke to the Club following putting pen to paper on a two-year deal at Highbury Stadium.

The 27-year-old will join the Cod Army after his contract expires at Blackpool, and will join up with his new teammates when they return for pre-season at Poolfoot Farm.

Virtue - who has plenty of experience at League One level - brings a wealth of experience to the current squad, and with a promotion under his belt, the midfielder is looking to add to that during his time at Fleetwood.

The Club sat down with Virtue, and here's what he had to say on the following:

On joining the Club and the manager's expectations...

"It's a pleasure to be here and like any player at this stage of the season, I can't wait to get going.

"When I came to meet Charlie [Adam] and the rest of the coaching staff, they all blew me away with their vision for this football club. The values they have match mine and the way the team wants to operate, so for me it was no-brainer to come here.

"I am a centre-midfielder. I see myself as a box-to-box man who likes running up and down the pitch. I do like to chip in with a few goals, and hopefully this season I can add more to my game.

"The manager wants me to bring energy to the team next season, as well as bring my experiences and leadserhip to the group.

"It's a great squad with a good blend of youth and senior pros so if I can help the younger players, help this team throughout and hopefully get promoted as that is what I want, and I know it's what the Club want."

On the vision and helping the Club get back to League One...

"I will do my best for the Club and my teammates. I know I can help on the pitch, but I can also be helpful off it and that side can always make a difference to any Club. If you want to be successful, you need that blend and I just want to play a big role in getting the team where it should be.

"This Club, the manager, and the players don't want to be playing in League Two. We have to get out of this league and for me, I want to play a big part in that, helping the group get promotion, which is the number one aim.

"I had a promotion at Blackpool, and the biggest thing there was togetherness with the players and the staff. You have to be a really good group, who are all on board with the vision and you go from there, and if we can get momentum early on, we will get to where we want to be."

THERE'S NO BETTER WAY TO WATCH MATTY VIRTUE AND THE REST OF THE FLEETWOOD TOWN SQUAD NEXT SEASON. WITH ONWARD CARDS STARTING FROM JUST £189 FOR ADULTS, AND JUST £50 FOR UNDER-16s.
