Throwback: OTD Town were promoted to Sky Bet League One!

On this day ten years ago, Fleetwood won promotion to Sky Bet League One after beating Burton Albion 1-0 at Wembley in 2014, here's how it played out:

Fleetwood started the game the livelier between the two sides with Dean Lyness in Burton's goal being tested first when David Ball received the ball on the half turn 12 yards out to see his effort sting the palms of Lyness.

Lyness was quickly called into action again to deny Ball again as his goal-bound header was down Lyness' throat and he was in the right place at the right time to delay the opening goal.

Town boss Graham Alexander didn't change any personnel at half-time but whatever he said to the Cods must have worked where a minute into the second half Ian Hume and David Ball combined well to find a yard of space, but the latter had yet another effort claimed by Lyness.

Burton then came the closest to opening the scoring as Shane Cansdell-Sherriff's header was inches away from nestling into the back of the net; Billy Kee found himself in a good position behind Town's back-line but couldn't keep his composure and fired over the bar with about an hour played.

After a good spell of possession by Town, Josh Morris picked the ball up just into Burton's half, the winger drove forward and was hacked down by Phil Edwards, where the resulting free-kick would go on to change Fleetwood's history...

Antoni Sarcevic stepped over the free-kick which was 35 yards out and his looping effort found it's way fantastically into the back of the net meaning Town would be one goal to the good with 15 minutes to go.

Fleetwood saw the remainder of the game out and history was made.

A fitting, sensational goal which capped off a remarkable season for Fleetwood Town - 6 promotions in 10 years, what a story.
