Fleetwood Town are delighted to announce goalkeeper David Harrington has been called up to the Republic of Ireland senior squad for their upcoming friendlies against Hungary and Portugal.

Harrington made his first team debut for Town in the final game of the season against Burton Albion, which Charlie Adam's side won 3-0 thanks to goals from Carl Johnston, Phoenix Patterson and Tommy Lonergan.

Harrington kept his cool at the other end in both halves to earn himself a clean sheet on debut for the Club, with his hard work behind the scenes being recognised by the selection team for Ireland - which has resulted in this call-up.

The 23-year-old will be the first players to be contracted at Fleetwood Town and get a senior called up to the Republic of Ireland national team, with former players Glenn Whelan and Paddy Madden being the other two players to have represented Ireland.

Harrington will now head over to Ireland for training with the squad ahead of their international friendlies against Hungary on Tuesday 4 June at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, and away to Portugal a week later on Tuesday 11 June at the Estadio Municipal de Averio.

Both of these matches are 7:45pm kick-offs, so stay tuned to see if Harrington makes the starting XI.

Congratulations and good luck with the national team, David!
