Our young players saw wins and losses in the Second Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup in the last week, with one young forward now eyeing up a next-round clash against Hyde United in a week’s time.

It was a joyous week for Will Russ and Marine AFC as they managed to beat Spennymoor Town 2-1 in the FA Cup at home, with our forward playing from start to finish. He worked multiple chances throughout the game, but it was a brace from Sol Solomon that made the difference on Saturday.

After the win in the cup, Marine AFC has been drawn away in the next round as they are set to travel to Ewen Fields to face Hyde United, in Greater Manchester, on Saturday 30 September for a 3pm kick-off.

It was a weekend to forget for Pat Boyes and FC United of Manchester as they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Warrington Rylands at Broadhurst Park. The game was filled with chances for both sides, but it was the visitors who took advantage as they won the clash 4-0 on the day.

Our sister club over in Ireland, Waterford FC, has also been in action since the last report, but neither Barry Baggley nor Drew Baker took part in their league fixture against Cobh Ramblers, which ended in a 2-0 loss after Jack Doherty opened the scoring from the penalty spot and Brendan Frahill doubled the lead soon after.

Here’s what is up next for our players out on loan:

Baggley & Baker: Longford Town v Waterford FC – League of Ireland First Division – Bishopsgate – Friday 22 September (7:45pm kick-off)

Boyes: FC United of Manchester v Whitby Town – Northern Premier League Premier Division – Saturday 23 September (3pm kick-off)

Russ: Marske United v Marine AFC – Northern Premier League Premier Division – Mount Pleasant – Saturday 23 September (3pm kick-off)
