Fleetwood Town's Former Players Association welcomed a very special guest to Poolfoot Farm for their October meeting, who discussed his ongoing campaign and his dad's memories from the 1966 World Cup.
John Stiles - Son of 1966 World Cup winner Nobby Stiles - was at Poolfoot Farm to discuss his campaign for dementia, a topic close to John's heart with his Dad passing away with the illness a few years ago. This was a very informative talk, educating all those in attendance and making people aware of the impact of head injuries and heading the ball in the past as well as in the currently game.
John did also talk about his Dad's memories, more so around the 1966 World Cup which saw the Three Lions crowned World Champions on home soil. With a match against the Arginine's, John talked about the roughness of the game, Nobby's teammates playing tricks on him and much more from his time at Manchester United and the support shown by him England manager, Sir Alf Ramsey.
The Former Players Association would like to thank John for his time on Thursday, and wish him all the best in his campaign to educate and help current and former players.
As well as all this going on, the group gathered together to see who would be celebrating their birthday this month, and to apologise for those who couldn't make it due to going on their '20th' cruise of the year. But overall, it was great to see everyone catching up over a cuppa tea made by our lovely host, Ange Hargreaves, whilst looking back at memorabilia from their time playing at Highbury Stadium.
The next meeting will take place on Thursday 2 November 2023 at Poolfoot Farm (FY5 4HX), with the meeting starting at 10am and finishing at 12pm. We can't wait to see you all down next month.
