Football is a worldwide sport and helps bring people together like no other and that’s the case for one of our Academy players as his best friend, a young player from Germany, came over to Highbury Stadium to support Fleetwood at the weekend.
Sam, an Under-13s player in our Academy, first met his friend Philipp whilst on holiday in Spain with his family and instantly bonded through their love for football as they set out to talk and play football at any opportunity during the break.
The families also get along very well, and this is how the topic of Fleetwood Town came up between the boys. Sam's father Peter mentioned his son was part of the Town Academy and that struck a memory with the German family as they remembered a pre-season tour from 2015.
Memories on this pre-season trip were fond for the family as it was held in their local town where Fleetwood faced Alemannia Aachen in a friendly, a game in which Philipp was a mascot for, which is an unbelievable coincidence!
The youngster is currently on a school trip to the UK and wanted to build in a trip to see his friend at Fleetwood so Sam approached our Transitional Phase Lead, Mike Hall, to see what could be sorted and, of course, the Club wanted to help.
Tickets for the Wycombe Wanderers game was handed out to the two families and a walk on the pitch, and in the dugouts, ahead of the game made it a great start to the day for the duo and their families.
The atmosphere in Jim’s Bar was also taken in before they sat down and enjoyed watching a game together at Highbury! This has only spurred on both the young lads in their footballing journeys as they go their separate ways, but they also hope for a return in the near future after loving the experience!
Hopefully, you all had a great day with us at Highbury, hope to see you again soon!
