Manager Lee Johnson spoke to the media after his side lost out at the DW Stadium to Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night.

It wasn’t the Cods’ night over on the other side of Lancashire as goals from Jordan Jones, Sean Clare, and Tom Pearce – adding a red card to Josh Earl to that – meant it was a cold and dreary night for Fleetwood and Johnson’s men.

Here’s what Lee had to say after the game:

On the defeat…

“It was a tough watch; I thought the game-changing moment, even though we were already two-nil down was the penalty/sending-off. It is definitely not simulation, there’s no doubting that, there’s definitely contact.

“In the second half, we salvaged a little bit of pride in terms of the boys, effort, energy and work rate but there’s a lot to do. We might have to adjust for a short period of time the way we look at how we start games.

“We’ve got a responsibility to the town; I thought our travelling fans were absolutely brilliant, they kept singing and kept cheering us on. Their efforts were magnificent; they deserved more tonight."

On moving forward…

“We’re up for the battle, we knew what we were coming into, we knew there’d be ups and downs. This team’s got a lot to do, we knew that when we came in, with the team and the position we picked the club up in.

“We need to build performance and build confidence, it’s as simple as that. It’s my job as a manager to find a formula that allows us to do that. This is football, and the beauty of football is that you’ve got another game Saturday, an important one for us - an FA Cup game.

“We’ll go to Cambridge and we’ll be fully up for it. 100% I’ll be making changes; I’m looking forward to that change. There is a big opportunity there Saturday."
