Fleetwood Town's young defender Carl Johnston has been rewarded for his fine form last season with a call-up to Northern Ireland's senior national squad for their upcoming training camp at St. George's Park.

The 21-year-old has been named in a 30-man selection by manager Michael O'Neill, as they prepare for their UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers in June.

Northern Ireland are set to face Denmark away at Parken on Friday 16 June, before playing on home soil three days later on Monday 19 June against Kazakhstan.

The Northern Ireland boss has been impressed by the quality in the pre-Belfast training camp - which was named as an Under-21s camp, and has since gone onto to promote a handful of players to step up to the senior squad before the final squad is announced ahead of the two fixtures.

Johnston - who celebrated his 21st birthday on Monday - has had international experience before, featuring for his native Northern Ireland at three different age groups – Under-17s, Under-19s, and Under-21s – with the senior team now firmly in his sights.

Well done, CJ!
