Fleetwood Town are delighted to say that work on an indoor dome at Poolfoot Farm has nearly finished and will be open in a couple of weeks ready for the summer.
The Air Dome, which will house an artificial grass 7-a-side pitch (60mx40m), a gymnasium area and a sprint track, is the result of a seven-figure investment by the club and owner Andy Pilley, which is showing real progress within the club's infrastructure.
The dome itself is bespoke and made from a high-quality and energy-efficient membrane system and uses the latest technology to keep the dome inflated, providing a permanent barrier to the worst conditions that the Fylde Coast can offer.
With the dome opening this summer, it will be providing a barrier to the sun, stopping any temperature increase and providing usage across 365 days of the year, meaning that thousands of people will be able to use the facility all-year round.
Not only will the academy benefit from the facility, but the community at large will be able to use the facility throughout the week and at weekends adding a further benefit to users at Poolfoot Farm, at what the already leading home to both elite and community football on the Fylde.
Town Chairman, Andy Pilley spoke after seeing the dome up for the first time this week and said: “It looks fantastic, and I am just proud that we’ve managed to get this over the line."
He added: "The dome is going to give a huge amount of pleasure to thousands of people throughout the year, but as well as our Academy – it’s just a fantastic facility.
“For the community, this is a huge addition to what we already offer young footballers, boys, and girls, in the local area and beyond.
"The weather isn’t always perfect in Fleetwood as we know, but it will be perfect inside that dome for 365 days of the year.
“I am sure lots of people will get use out of our new dome and I am also sure it will make players better as well as their quality of life.”
