Fleetwood Town’s Under-11s and Under-12s made their way down south at the weekend to take part in a Pro Academy Tournament in Stevenage and played against some brilliant teams!
The Under-11s kicked off first and began the tournament with a 2-0 win over Scottish side Hibernian, and then played against a team which is in the men’s Champions League final this season, Manchester City.
Italian giant AC Milan were next on the list for the young Cods, with Premier League side Arsenal rounding out the group stage for that age group. In the round of 16, Chelsea were Town’s opponents, but that is where their tournament ended.
Moving on to the Under-12s, they were very successful in the group stages as they opened it up with a win over Sholing, a UK-based academy, before facing EFL sides Plymouth Argyle and Stevenage.
Two straight wins, against Japanese side Yokohama FC and Irish team Shelbourne, confirmed their spot in the round of 16 of the competition, where they overcame Cambridge United 1-0 – Norwich City were the opponents in the quarter-finals but they lost that clash 1-0.
All the coaches and players present said it was a brilliant weekend and one to remember for the young players who represented our Academy – well done to all!
