Assistant head coach Steven Whittaker spoke to the press after Saturday’s 2-1 win over Lincoln City at Highbury.
Town took an early lead when Adam Jackson turned a corner into his own net under a challenge from Jayden Stockley, but Lincoln skipper Regan Poole levelled the score just before the break.
However, with just over 15 minutes to play, Stockley headed home Phoenix Patterson’s corner in spectacular style to secure the three points.
Here’s what Whittaker had to say:
On the game…
“It’s nice to get the points first a foremost to keep the momentum going at the moment. It was a good result against Derby so we’ve kind of continued the momentum from that result. It was nice to score a couple of set play goals as well so all in all it was a good afternoon.
“The performance was good. There was a lot of adapting within the 90 minutes. We had to change shape a little bit and they, with three injuries had to change shape a little bit as well. It kept the players on their toes but they adapted well."
On the front two…
“I think the front two [Jayden Stockley and Jack Marriott] have been really good over the last couple of games. We could’ve put the ball in the net a little bit earlier and maybe made it a slightly more comfortable afternoon.
“Jayden brings people into play and is a physicality that we’ve probably missed up there. His hold-up play and his link-up play to get us up the pitch has been brilliant and Jack was really good at anticipating around him as well."
On another win at Highbury…
“The boys are working hard, they’re an honest bunch and they’re really easy to coach as well; it’s important that we keep trying to win here and when our fans come to watch we’re entertaining, and we pick up results.
“It’s good as our last couple of results were away, we’re at home again next week against Exeter who had a really good result today so it’s a different test so we’ll get to work in the week and hopefully it will go well."
