Defender Shaun Rooney has been named the February Player of the Month by the supporters after a vote over on our Instagram page!
Rooney, who has been a fans’ favourite since joining in the summer from Scottish side St Johnstone, has been an ever-present in Scott Brown’s side all season, apart from missing a few games due to suspensions, and has recently been rewarded with last month’s POTM award.
The defender featured in five of the seven games throughout the month and played a key part in the side keeping four consecutive clean sheets against Peterborough United, Plymouth Argyle, Cambridge United, and Lancashire rivals Morecambe.
Not only this, but he managed to find himself on the score sheet yet again this season after he decided to take on a strike from range at The Valley midway through the month to give the side the lead against Charlton Athletic before adding a sixth goal of the season later in the month against Cambridge.
The two other players in the running for the monthly award were goalkeeper Jay Lynch and fellow defender Brendan Wiredu as both of them were consistent performers throughout the month, alongside the Scottish full-back.
