Goal scorer Jack Marriott spoke to the press soon after the full-time whistle at Highbury Stadium as his goal earned Town a point against Port Vale.
It’s been a longer wait than he would have hoped for, but it’s finally over now as he was there to poke home the equaliser from close range, cancelling out Matty Taylor’s opener for the visitors.
Here’s what Jack had to say after the game:
On his first goal and playing with Jayden Stockley…
“I’m delighted to get off the mark; we want to create chances, get into that final third, and get quality into the box so for me personally, it’s great for me to get off the mark and I’m hoping that I can really kick on now.
“I just want to be involved, I want to be playing games, and we brought Jayden [Stockley] on at half-time and get a little bit more presence up top which worked well as he started to win a few more flick-ons with him pushing us further up the pitch.
“Most of our opportunities came late on in the game, in the last 15-20 minutes, and we were really pushing them until the end. Towards the final whistle, we were still pushing to try and find that winner."
On the weather and the game as a whole…
“The wind was playing a big factor today as it was swirling so they were difficult conditions to play in; we knew we weren’t there in the first half, but in the second half, we were much better, and I feel we were a bit unfortunate not to mick it late on.
“We’ve had three defeats on the spin, Burnley was a different kettle of fish, but we still had two defeats in the league so we knew we had to rectify that today and we could have gone and picked up all three.
“They put a lot of bodies on the line and chucked their bodies in front of every opportunity and we could have grabbed that second goal, but ultimately, a draw is probably a fair result.”
