Head coach Scott Brown spoke to the local media after his side lost out to Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park on Tuesday evening.

It was a game where Town created good chances through forwards Jack Marriott, Carlos Mendes Gomes, and Phoenix Patterson but it was goals from Chris Forino and Sam Vokes for the Chairboys that decided the result on the night.

Here’s what he had to say after the game:

On the overall performance…

“You’re going to be up against it coming here and they started well; we didn’t switch on from a second phase of a corner, Harvey [Macadam] sprints out a little bit too keen and it gets slipped down the side and it’s an easy ball into the box for the goal.

“Later on in the first half, I think we started to get a good hold of the game and started the second half well. We started to use the width of the park, with the two number eights going further forwards and created a good amount of chances.

“We just couldn’t get the ball into the back of the net at that point and then [Sam] Vokes’ chance is a great finish; you can’t take anything away from that as it’s a quick touch and a top finish – I think he was the difference between the two sides tonight with his hold up play and link up play.”

On the attacking threats this evening…

“I felt like we were on top and in control in the second half at that point; the pivot was good in terms of receiving the ball and pushing forwards and we were pushing up the park at a good pace as well. For us, we are disappointed to come away with a 2-0 score line as we haven’t scored in two now.

“We created a lot more chances today than we did against Cheltenham, Jack [Marriott]’s willingness and running ability was exceptional today. He works hard and for us as a team, that’s a given now, you have to work hard and make sure that we produce high-quality performances.

“To be a high pressing team, you have to do that and I thought Jack’s work rate was top today, he just needs a goal and I think that will build confidence for him. The 4-3-3 shape suits Carlos [Mendes Gomes] and Phoenix [Patterson] as we can get higher up the park and press further up as well.”
