Stockley: Back-to-back wins will be crucial for us

Forward Jayden Stockley sat down with the local media on Thursday and spoke about his time at the club do far as well as looking to what Fleetwood Town can achieve this season.

Stockley found the back of the net on his debut almost a week ago, but was unfortunately cup-tied so couldn’t feature in the Sheffield Wednesday win on Tuesday night – this week, he heads to his former side in Charlton looking for another goal and three points.

Here’s what Jayden had to say in his interview:

On his first few weeks at the club…

“I’ve settled in really well; when you come into a side in January, you don’t get much time to get used to your surroundings as you get thrown into game after game, so you get to know the lads out on the pitch and I think that’s the best way to announce yourself into a team.

“As I’ve demonstrated throughout my career, I’ve always wanted to go out and play. You sometimes get those feelings that it’s your time to move on from somewhere and I think, as a striker, you have to look at where would be a good fit for you at your next club, and Fleetwood was that for me.

“I saw that they were interested in Jack [Marriott] as well so it was easy to see the bigger picture at the club. It’s the manger, the staff, and the current players here, as well as the fact I’ve already been up here with Preston was a big draw as well so I know the area well.”

On the objectives for the season…

“The number one objective is to have a good end to the season; pulling away from what is beneath us is the number one priority and would like to get some back-to-back wins to help us to achieve that – we can start to look at other things from that point on then.

“The back-to-back wins will be crucial for us getting further up the league as we want that buffer between us and the teams below. Momentum builds fast, you can take the result from Saturday and then counteract it with the brilliant performance on Tuesday against one of the best in the league.

“We put a team out that was young and energetic and as with anything in football, momentum can build off an evening like that so hopefully going somewhere like Charlton this weekend will act like a catalyst for those all-important back-to-back performances we’ve been wanting.”
