FLEETWOOD TOWN

Town come into their first Saturday home game for three weeks since they were defeated by Burton Albion at the death. The Cods’ run of form has been firing since then with four wins from their last five games, including one last time out against Cambridge United in midweek, in a fixture which was rescheduled from December.

Defender Shaun Rooney was on hand to win the game over Cambridge for Fleetwood with an 88th minute winner. As well as Rooney, Brendan Wiredu continues to impress with a brilliant performance against the U’s. Along with him, Promise Omochere has been picking up from where he left off with more goals as his great run goes on.

The side have been turning home games into wins and have been getting more clean sheets in a five-game unbeaten run. Defensively Town are strong, with the attack firing on all cylinders. After reaching 13th position in the table after Tuesday’s win, the only way is up as Fleetwood go into this matchup with fellow Lancashire side, Morecambe.

MORECAMBE

The Shrimps haven’t had it easy so far this season. They have found themselves in the bottom four for most of the campaign. At the moment, Morecambe sit 20th with their heads just one point above water as they make the trip to Highbury.

With Accrington having two games in hand over Derek Adams’ side, a win in Fleetwood is paramount for Morecambe’s hopes of staying in the league. Morecambe did win their last game though, beating Port Vale 1-0 but that was the Shrimps first win since the end of January when they beat Bristol Rovers.

They did have three consecutive wins over the New Year period against Accrington, Burton, and Cheltenham respectively, but they haven’t been able to rediscover that form since then. Forward Adam Mayor got the goal against Port Vale, which was his third of the season.

Fellow forward Cole Stockton has only managed three goals this season, 20 less than his total from last campaign. Adams will need those two on top form to take a victory away from Scott Brown’s men.

They will have some hope going into the game though, it’s a local derby with a lot to lose for the team who fall short so they will use last weekend’s win to give them optimism going into Saturday’s match.

WHAT THE MANAGER HAD TO SAY REGARDING THE GAME

Fleetwood boss Scott Brown had his say on Saturday’s opponents Morecambe in his pre-match press conference.

Brown said: “Derek has done a very good job at Morecambe and has made them hard to beat. They’ve jumped into a couple of different formations, so we need to see how they play.

“In the last few games, they’ve had more possession of the ball and some very good lads in the middle of the park who can get on the ball.

“Derek is a great person and spoke well after the game when I went to speak to him last time we met.

“That’s like us Scottish lads, it’s like the goalkeeper’s union, we just stick together.”
