FLEETWOOD TOWN

The hosts come into this game in terrific form having picked up seven points from their last three league games where they beat both Charlton and Peterborough respectively, while travelling to Plymouth Argyle to pick up a point. This great run was started with a win in the Fourth-Round replay of the Emirates FA Cup against the league one leaders Sheffield Wednesday.

Fleetwood sit in 16th place but with the games in hand they have, a win on Tuesday over Cambridge who are in the relegation zone, could propel the Cods to mid table and potentially further. Since the January transfer window, results have been brilliant for Scott Brown’s side and despite the Scotsman bringing in both Jack Marriott and Jayden Stockley.

Fellow forward Promise Omochere continues to fire in the goals as the Irishmen now sits at five goals in all competitions. Defensively Town have been performing terrifically of late, conceding just one goal in their last three matches.

With just 15 league games remain include this one against The U’s, it’s imperative that the good run carries on for Fleetwood and in the game, which was supposed to be held in December, Brown’s men hope to do just that.

CAMBRIDGE UNITED

As for Mark Bonner’s Amber Army, they have been struggled of late with just one win in their last nine games which came last time out against Oxford United. Cambridge are only one point adrift of Accrington in 20th but with the lack of goals and points, Tuesday’s visitors really need to take three points from Highbury.

There is some hope for Cambridge though, they have players in their side who can cause team’s trouble. Their forward duo of Sam Smith and Joe Ironside don’t need an invitation to find the net, nor does Harvey Knibbs.

Cambridge will be looking to keep their recent optimism going as they could climb out the relegation zone with a win.

WHAT THE STEVEN WHITTAKER HAD TO SAY REGARDING THE GAME

Assistant Head coach Steven Whittaker spoke to local press after the draw with Plymouth and had this to say regarding matters heading into the visit of Cambridge.

Whittaker said: “There’s been a lot of work put in since we came in over the summer as we needed to stop conceding as many goals as we did last season.

“It’s nice to get back to the clean sheets. Before midweek we hadn’t had one in a while.

“With the tough run of fixtures, we knew the games were going to come thick and fast, so it was all about gaining momentum. We’ve got four games in the next two weeks, including Cambridge.”
