FLEETWOOD TOWN

A week after Fleetwood came away from Hillsborough with an FA Cup replay after drawing 1-1 with Sheffield Wednesday in the competition’s fourth round, Scott Brown’s side now face struggling Burton Albion at Highbury in what is sure to be a competitive league outing. Town have been unlucky not to see a win since their New Year’s Day defeat over Shrewsbury Town.

Having lost three of their last four league games, this forthcoming game against the Brewers is nothing less than a must win. Saturday’s opponents are just four points behind Fleetwood, as they sit in the second relegation spot as opposed to the Cods being in 17th.

As the January transfer window closed, Brown did bolster his attacking options by bringing in both Jack Marriott and Jayden Stockley, to join Promise Omochere and Carlos Mendes Gomes as the club’s forwards.

With those two in the ranks and Omochere finding his feet since his move from Ireland, Town have a lot going for them if they can get back to winning ways against a Burton side who despite their struggles, have put some performance together – most noticeably last time out in a 2-0 win over Oxford United.

BURTON ALBION

Similarly, to Fleetwood, Burton’s last league win came over the Christmas period, before they managed a win against Oxford United last weekend. The Brewers have had a struggling season as they so far sit in the league’s bottom four.

It seems like when Burton wins a game, they go on a bit of a run and then falter again. They had back-to-back victories in December, defeating both Lincoln and Forest Green but had lost three in a row since then before last weekend. Results seem hard to come by for both sides but Burton in particular.

There’s not been much to write home about for Albion this season, and most of their wins look to have come at the Pirelli Stadium rather than on the road but with their young squad coming off the back of a win, Town will need to be on their guard to make sure they don’t fall victim to a Burton win, who also are looking to get out the drop zone.

WHAT THE MANAGER HAD TO SAY REGARDING THE GAME

Fleetwood boss Scott Brown spoke to press ahead of the league meeting with Burton Albion this weekend. He insists it will be tough but expects Town to go after it on Saturday.

Brown said: “Burton have bought in a lot of players recently and have a big squad full of energetic, quality players so we’ve got to match their energy.

“They got a good result last week, so they’ll be in high spirits. It’s a packed month for us, but I loved times like these as a player and so do our players.

“Our home form hasn’t been great; we’ve played some good football but sometimes that doesn’t mean you pick up the points you deserve.”

Speaking on the new signings the team made, Brown spoke on his delight at bringing striking duo Marriott and Stockley through the doors.

He said: “We were always looking for strikers and we managed to get two in, and a centre-half so that’s fantastic for us.

“The squad is looking a lot stronger. It was huge for us to get in players who know the level; we’ve not had a natural goal scorer for a while, and we’ve managed to bring two in this window.”
