Fleetwood Town are delighted to announce that young defender Billy Jones has signed his first professional contract with the club.

Jones performances for the club's Under-18s haven't gone unnoticed, and has today on his 18th birthday has put pen-to-paper on a long-term contract at the Fylde Coast club following being called up to the first team matchday squad.

The 18-year-old has also been involved with the first-team this season as he was on the bench for Town’s fixtures away at Sheffield Wednesday in League One as well as for the Emirates FA Cup clash at Hillsborough.

Jones, who has featured in all of Town's Under-18s FA Youth Cup matches, helped Mark Yeates side reach the Fifth Round of the competition, seeing wins over Carlisle United, Stockport County, Bristol City and Middlesbrough.

Jack Higgins, Head of Town's Academy said: "I am really pleased for Billy to see him sign his first professional contract. He's come on leaps and bounds since joining us from Everton as a 16-year-old and has overcome some injuries in his time at the club.

"He came in as a central midfielder and he now finds himself as a full-back. His versatility to play both right and left back is a positive alongside many of his attributes which makes him a difficult opponent to play against.

"He will be joining Fleetwood Town's Under-21s next season, pushing himself against other professional players, looking to gain more opportunities with the first team if he conducts himself in the right manner.

Congrats on the contract, Billy!
