Fleetwood Town's Under-18s beat Premier Football Academy 8-0 at Poolfoot Farm on Saturday, with both Mikey Lane and Dom Richmond scoring hat-tricks in the dominant performance.
It was a great start to the game from Mark Yeates’ side as 16-year-old forward Mikey Lane managed to bag himself a 20-minute hat-trick in the first half.
The first of the three was from the penalty spot, where he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way before a brilliant move from Liam Roberts set him up for a close-range tap-in soon after.
Lane and the young Cods didn’t have to wait much longer to grab the third goal of the game as Town were able to capitalise on a couple of half-clearances from the away side, with the ball then falling to Lane who volleyed an effort into the back of the net from the edge of the area, securing his hat-trick in the process.
The lead was extended even further before the break as Roberts played the creator for the second time in the game, this time finding Kayden Hughes at the back post from a cross, with the defender leaping higher than anyone else and nodding his effort into the ground, therefore evading the goalkeeper.
This move was replicated for the fifth goal of the afternoon as well as a short-corner routine saw Roberts pick out Theo Butterworth, this time at the near post, who prodded home ahead of the half-time whistle.
It seemed like crossing to be the way to go as that is how the next two goals came from, with substitute Dom Richmond scoring both from close range.
A second hat-trick of the afternoon was secured with not long to go as Richmond stepped up to the penalty spot and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way, much like Lane’s spot kick from the first half, therefore rounding off what was a dominant performance at Poolfoot Farm.
The Under-18s would like to thank Premier Football Academy for the friendly and wish them all the best for the upcoming season.
