Fixture: Port Vale v Fleetwood Town

FLEETWOOD TOWN
After picking up a point in their opening match of the Sky Bet League One season away at Carlisle, it was defender Brendan Wiredu's strike that salvaged a point for the Cod Army after Owen Moxon's 30-yard free-kick curled and bounced off the post to beat Jay Lynch between the sticks.
Town have had success in this competition, with last year winning their Round One tie at home to Everton thanks to a Ged Garner header inside the penalty box. Back in 2020/21 season, Town reached the Third Round and played Everton at Goodison Park. The match finished 5-2 to the Toffees, with the Cods taking the lead in that game thanks to a Danny Andrew wonder strike from 20-yards out.

PORT VALE
The Sky Bet League One side had a opening day they'll want to forget. The Valiants lost 7-0 away at last season's Play-Off Finalists Barnsley at Oakwell. Former Fleetwood Town forward Devante Cole scored a hat-trick - his first for the Reds since joining. Liam Kitching, Jon Russell and Andy Dallas were also on the scoresheet, with Port Vale's man Dan Jones scoring an own goal to make it seven for the Reds in Yorkshire.
Port Vale have made 14 signings this summer, with majority of those being free transfers. Former Morecambe keeper Connor Ripley made the move in the summer, along side, Conor Grant from Plymouth Argyle and Jason Lowe from League Two side, Salford City.
Having exited the competition in Round One last year at home to Rotherham United, they will be wanting to go one better this year, whilst also trying to turn things around from the weekend. United won 2-1 back on August 10 2022 , with Oliver Rathbone and Chiedozie Ogbene scoring first half goals. Mal Benning scored in the 81th minute, but it was only a concellation goal.
