Fleetwood Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of young Northern Irish defender Conor Haughey, who will be joining the Under-18s on two-year scholarship.
Conor joins the Cod Army from prestigious Northern Ireland Premier League side, Glentoran, being the youngest player to ever play for their first-team.
The two clubs have shared a successful relationship in the development of youth players as Conor follows the footsteps of players such as Barry Baggley (currently on-loan at sister club, Waterford FC), Chris Conn-Clarke (recently sold to Altrincham), Harry Wilson & Jake Wallace in signing for the Cods following a spell in Glentoran’s youth setup.
Haughey joins Fleetwood Town with considerable international experience, captaining Northern Ireland’s Under-16s in their Victory Shield competition during the 2022-2023 season.
A dominant centre half, Conor will be looking to bring his leadership skills to the Under-18s and look to cement his place in the team and progress from there.
He added on the move: "I am absolutely delighted to be here at Fleetwood Town. Signing here on a two-year scholarship will allow me to develop as a player and as an individual, and I am very thankful for the faith shown in me over the last few weeks and months.
"I want to make sure I am playing well for the Under-18s, but I want to keep pushing myself to hopefully get opportunities with the Under-21s this season. This Club has a great history in giving young players an opportunity, but you need to earn it so I just need to be ready for anything that comes my way."
