Fleetwood Town’s Under-18s are on the road for the first time this season in their Professional Development League campaign, with Colchester United the opponents on Saturday 26 August at Maldon & Tiptree's stadium.
Mark Yeates’ side had a brilliant start to the season by picking up maximum points on home soil against Watford at Poolfoot Farm last Saturday. Captain Kayden Hughes opened the scoring just before half-time with a glancing header from a corner, with the young central defender making it two after the break with a long range effort.
Forward Mikey Lane rounded off a superb display with a well taken finish into the far corner after beating the offside trap, and it was a performance that pleased all the coaches and Academy staff in their first outing in the Professional Development League.
Colchester United have played two matches in the league so far and have seen two defeats on the bounce. The first was a 3-1 loss at home to Coventry City, with the latter being a 6-2 defeat on the road at Barnsley.
Coach Elliot Ward will be looking for a reaction this weekend, with him going head-to-head with former teammate, Mark Yeates in the technical area.
