Goal scorers Jack Marriott and Phoenix Patterson have been named in the EFL’s Team of the Week, as well as the one for Sky Bet League One, for their performances against Accrington Stanley on Saturday!
In what was an afternoon to remember for the Cod Army, both Marriott and Patterson found the back of the net, alongside Promise Omochere, with the former bagging a hat-trick on the afternoon.
Town’s number 14 opened the scoring with a martial arts-esque finish before making the most of a counter to double the lead. He could have made it three, but his next effort came off the inside of the post meaning both Jayden Stockley and Omochere had to link up to tap home from close range to make it 3-0.
Two late goals would follow and make it an easier watch come full-time as Patterson cut in from the wing after receiving the ball from Josh Earl, and he managed to power his shot into the roof of the net, off the underside of the bar, leaving Lukas Jensen no chance between the sticks.
The second of that quickfire duo would come just before the end as Marriott found himself in some space, with Patterson finding him from the midfield, and he calmly slotted past the keeper to ensure he would be taking home the match ball on the afternoon.
