Fleetwood Town’s Under-18s walked away 3-1 winners over Preston North End in their latest North West Youth Alliance fixture on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides clashed at Town’s Poolfoot Farm complex, and it was a good start for Mark Yeates’ side as they managed to take the lead just 20 minutes in after a Preston defender nodded Liam Roberts’ free-kick past his own keeper to make it 1-0.

The score would stay the same going into the half-time break, but two quickfire goals – one apiece – would come right at the start of the second half.

Preston initially managed to equalise, but Dom Richmond was able to catch them on the counter soon after to restore Fleetwood’s lead.

Not long after that, it was Roberts’ turn to be the goal scorer as in the 61st minute, it was another goal on the counter, this time started by Town’s goalkeeper.

Oliver Belizia launched a kick long down the right, which eventually found the feet of Richmond, who crossed into Roberts, and it was a cushioned header that made it 3-1 on the afternoon.

Next up for Yeates’ Under-18s is a home fixture against Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday 11 April at Poolfoot Farm, with kick-off set to be 1pm.

Town XI: Belizia (GK), Cirino, Jones, Morrison, Hoyle, Hughes, Richmond (Currie 81'), Elmore (Glenfield 61'), Lane, Namputu (Slater 71'), Roberts (Daha 81').
