Fleetwood Town's Under-18s forward Sam Glenfield came off the bench on Wednesday evening to make an appearance for Northern Ireland Under-19s against Slovenia.

Glenfield - who joined the Cod Army from Portadown in the summer - has represented the Club at First Team level this season, and was called up the Northern Ireland Under-19s squad earlier this month following success in Fleetwood Town's Under-18s and Under-23s.

The forward came off the bench on Wednesday night in his sides UEFA Qualifying match against Slovenia, which finished in the Netherlands a 2-2 draw. Gerard Lyttle’s side are in Group 13 of the 2022/23 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifying round and nearly claimed all three points.

In their first game in a four-team mini tournament, against Slovenia U19s in Assen, they had victory in their grasp but fell at the final hurdle. They were leading 2-1 up until the 90th minute when Slovenia equalised with a stunning free-kick.

The Northern Ireland squad will now set their eyes on the next game against the hosts, the Netherlands on Saturday 24 September at 3pm, and then they will face Moldova on Tuesday 27 September at 7:30pm.

Goalkeeper Stephen McMullan was named on the bench, but was unused on the night.
