FLEETWOOD TOWN
The Cods come into this game off the back of two brilliant away performances, with a 0-1 win over Burton Albion and a draw away at Portsmouth, last time out. Town have only lost once in their last eleven league games now. However, Town’s last fixture at Highbury, did end in a narrow 0-1 defeat to Barnsley.
In the Barnsley game, The Cods were unfortunate not to come away with anything but rectified their performance by taking a point from Fratton Park last weekend, where a goal from Carlos Mendes-Gomes was enough to ensure Town jumped back to 12th place in the league table.
After two positive results, The Cods will be looking to continue the form and perform well against Shrewsbury Town in front of their home fans this weekend.
SHREWSBURY TOWN
Shrewsbury have started the season in strong form, sitting 9th after the twelve games they have played so far. Their last outing ended in a 2-1 home win over MK Dons but before that were beaten 2-0 away to Cheltenham Town.
Jordan Shipley got the winning goal against MK Dons late in the first half and a 54th minute goal from Zak Jules couldn’t force The Dons back into the game. The Shrews haven’t been too good away from home this season, only winning two of their last five, which came against Wycombe Wanderers and Forest Green respectively.
WHAT THE MANAGER HAD TO SAY ON SHREWSBURY TOWN
“Shrewsbury have done well so far this season - we know they are going to counter-attack - hopefully we can have a lot of the ball as that would be nice. I’m sure it’s going to be a hard game; they’ve chopped and changed their formation a couple of times so we will just wait and see how they are going to set up for the game this weekend.
“As I always say, we don’t like to talk too much about the other teams in this league, it’s more about how we set up, how we play, and our game plan. I know it gets repetitive week in, week out but that’s how it is. You’ve got to make sure you are focused on your own team and not worry about others.
“Momentum is key in football; if you win two games, you are right up there and if you lose two, you will be a battle for relegation. We don’t want to be down at the bottom end, that’s for sure, and we know that it’s a huge game for us at home against Shrewsbury. They are two points ahead of us so it’s going to be a good contest and the lads are looking forward to it.”
