Fleetwood Town’s Under-18s came back from behind to comfortably beat Oldham Athletic 5-2 in their latest Youth Alliance fixture at Poolfoot Farm on Saturday.

It was a shaky start for the young Cods in their clash against the Latics as the visitors managed to put themselves into the lead just five minutes in, but the reaction from Town’s players was something to be proud of as they showed their quality, coming back into the game soon after as Brad Arthur converted from a tight angle.

The goals kept coming from this point on in the first half as Fleetwood won a penalty in the 26th minute, with Kyle King stepping up to the spot and swiftly dispatching it before Zane Marsh picked out the head of Kayden Hughes four minutes later to double the lead and send Town into the break with a two-goal lead.

More of the same came from the second half as the lead went from two goals to four ahead of the hour mark. Marsh turned from provider to scorer for the fourth of the afternoon as he showed his finishing ability to strike past the Oldham keeper, with captain Will Johnson scoring another header, which he will add to his seasonal tally,

A goal was conceded from the penalty spot late on to make it 5-2 on the afternoon, but that was no more than a consolation goal as our Under-18s celebrated a good performance and three points at Poolfoot Farm.

Town XI: McMullan (GK), Jones, Arthur, Khela, W.Johnson (C), Hughes (Richmond 76’), Kearns (Wilson 65’), Morrison, M.Lane, Marsh, King.
