Defender Shaun Rooney spoke to the club after he scored a last-minute equaliser to secure not only a brace for himself, but a valuable point for the Cods against Bristol Rovers.

In what was a dramatic fixture from start to end, wing-back Rooney was the star of the show as he opened the scoring in the first half before levelling things up with seconds to go in added time, meaning that Town would make the long trip home with another point to add to their tally.

Here’s what Roons had to say after the game:

On his brace against Bristol Rovers…

“The fact we came back into the game at the end shows the fighting spirit we’ve got, not just the players but the fans as well. It’s a great point to take home and I’m happy with the goals I scored today.

"For the first goal, I’ve not been good on my left foot so far this season, I’ve had a couple of shots and missed them, so I gambled by cutting back, so I had a chance to score the opener.

“When Danny [Andrew] runs down the left line, you know you’ve got a chance because he’s got a wand of a left peg and puts it exactly where you want it. Luckily enough for me, it landed right on my head, so I’m delighted for the lads and the fans alike.”

On the supporters at the Memorial Stadium…

“They always come in their numbers each week so it’s always good to have them behind you and, after scoring two, there was a massive atmosphere here today from the travelling support. To score a last-minute equaliser in front of them in the last minute was amazing to be fair.

“When we went one-nil up, the crowd went quiet but that all changed when they went a goal up in the second half, I think they were all chanting my name saying, ‘what’s the score?’ I scored the header in the 97th or 98th minute to level it up and that seemed to shut them up.”

A quick look ahead to next week…

“For us, it’s just another week of training where we can get back at it. We will be back in on Monday and Tuesday for some hard work, off Wednesday, and then some tactical work on Thursday and Friday leading up to the game – we’re all looking forward to next week.”
