Fleetwood Town are delighted to announce young defender Will Johnson has today agreed to sign his first professional contract with the Club.
Following a successful start to the season with the Club's Under-18s, and scoring the winning goal in Tuesday night's FA Youth Cup win over Stockport County, Will has agreed to put pen to paper on a two-year professional contract at Fleetwood Town Football Club.
The 17-year-old joined as a scholar in the summer of 2021 and was named the captain of the Under-18s in the summer. The centre-back has flourished this season, with the reward being his first pro contract.
Head of Academy, Jack Higgins, added: "We are absolutely delighted to offer Will professional terms. He epitomises everything that we as an Academy are all about. We look for good people as well as good players and for Will, he's just a fantastic young person who puts absolutely everything into everything he does.
"On and off the pitch, Will represents himself and his family well and he's a leader. He strives to be the best version of himself every single day. He's currently studying his Maths A Level so is balancing that hard work with the work on the pitch, as well as being the captain of the Under-18s.
"We are delighted to extend Will's journey with us and can't wait to see him step up into the Under-23s and hopefully push for a first-team place in the near future."
Congratulations on the contract, Will!
