Fleetwood Town’s Under-18s picked up a point after their 2-2 draw against Grimsby Town in their latest Youth Alliance Cup fixture at Poolfoot Farm on Saturday.
Town forward Mikey Lane got the hosts off to the perfect start in the 24th minute of the game with a well worked finish past the Grimsby keeper. Fleetwood did put pressure on the visitors but couldn't get that second goal in the match, and when you don't take chances, you allow the other team to counter.
Grimsby scored one minute before the interval, which meant it was even stevens at half-time with both managers having something to work on as they preapred for the remaining 45 minutes.
With around 20 minutes left in the match, Dom Richmond came off the bench and made an impact straight away. The young forward was calm in front of goal and scored to make it 2-1 to Matt Lawlor's side.
Unfortunately for Town, Grimsby scored with ten minutes left on the clock. This meant the tie finished 2-2 with each side sharing the points in the Youth Alliance Cup.
