Let’s go back in time this Thursday for a throwback feature to Fleetwood Town’s 2-1 win over Plymouth Argyle at Home Park back in October 2017.

On-loan striker Jordy Hiwula set the scoring off in the middle of the second half, breaking the deadlock just after the hour mark, before a hectic end to the game ensued with two goals – one for each team – came in added time at the end. Amari’i Bell doubled the Cods’ lead first with Alex Fletcher pulling one back for the hosts soon after but, unluckily for them, it was just a consolation.

For the Hiwula goal, Bobby Grant started the move by pouncing on an error from former Town man Antoni Sarcevic and played a sweet through ball to Hiwula, who couldn’t miss as he struck past Letheren. The 139 Cods behind the goal who had made the mammoth 325-mile journey certainly enjoyed that one!

In the final few minutes of the game, victory seemed to be in the bag as Town made it 2-0 when Bell completed his own mazey run with a powerful low drive in the bottom corner.

It was the perfect finish to a match that Town deserved to win, but it still wasn’t over. From the restart, Argyle got themselves back into the game with the last kick of the game, as Fletcher headed past Cairns. The breathless stoppage time was eventually over as the ref called time and confirm Fleetwood's second win in a week.

Town XI: Cairns (GK), Coyle, Bell, Eastham, Pond (C), Hiwula (Burns 76’), Dempsey, Grant, Bolger, Glendon (O’Neill 55’), Cole.
