Fleetwood Town’s Wrens Ladies Development Squad finished off their league campaign last night by beating Blackburn Community Sports Club Reserves 4-3 at Highbury.

In the last game of the season, the Ladies swapped their usual home of Brews Park for the first team’s stadium, Highbury, to make the occasion one to remember for all the players on the night. Supporters were also able to support the Wrens Ladies, with free entry at all gates.

From start to finish, it was a competitive game that was end to end, with seven goals being scored between the two sides. You couldn’t pick a specific player to be nominated ‘Player of the Match’ as they were all brilliant and even found enough energy at the end of the game to find an injury-time winner.

Gemma Newson netted a brace, with Frankie Sarsfield, and Katie Ramsbottom also getting on the score sheet, meaning the side would finish fourth in the Lancashire FA Women’s County Championship League.

Town squad: Whittam, Horton (C), Hague, Crook, Bullion, Duffy, Ramsbottom, Dunning, Yates, Baker-Newsham, Murphy, Newson, Pepper, Winder, Rawes, Sarsfield.
