Fleetwood Town’s Academy hosted an Under-15s tournament at Poolfoot Farm on Monday with teams making their way from all over England, Scotland, and Wales to take part!
The club’s training complex was put to good use after the end of the main season as ten teams embarked on the elite pitches at the front to play in the one-day roll on, roll off style tournament, which saw a group stage and then a knockout format to find a winner.
Premier League sides Newcastle United, Watford, and Everton joined Fleetwood in Group A, alongside Championship side Middlesbrough in what was a tough group. The Magpies came out on top after going undefeated after four games, with Watford coming in second, Everton in third, and the Cods in fourth.
In the other group, it was filled with Scottish Premiership and Europa League side Rangers, Championship sides Stoke City, Preston North End, and Swansea City, as well as Sky Bet League One side Crewe Alexandra. The Potters won out after picking up nine points from five games and were followed by Preston, Rangers, and Swansea respectively.
After a tough set of knockout games between the aforementioned sides, it was Newcastle who managed to beat Preston in their semi-final and would go on to win the entire competition after winning the final.
Everyone at Fleetwood would like to thank the teams for participating and would like to hold another tournament like this again in the future!
